European Satyananda Yoga Family
Kriya Yoga and Tattwa Shuddhi are two systems developed by Sri Swami Satyananda for aspirants of his time.
The word kriya means ‘activity’ or ‘movement’ and refers to the activity or movement of consciousness. Kriya also refers to a type of practical or preliminary practice leading to total union, the final result of practice. Kriya Yoga does not curb mental fluctuations but purposely creates activity and awakening in consciousness. In this way all faculties are harmonised and flower into their fullest potential.
Shuddhi means purification and the tattwas in this practice are the five elements or mahabhutas. This sadhana thus purifies the whole body and prepares it for higher yoga practices as well as for deeper experiences of other branches of yoga such as hatha yoga, and for a life of wellbeing and vitality.
Kriya Yoga and Tattwa Shuddhi are both advanced practices; they use mantra and visualization to expand one’s understanding and experience and take the practitioner beyond the realm of the mundane mind.
This training is suitable to those who have solid understanding and experience of hatha yoga and raja yoga, are able to manage the experience of mind and emotions, and wish to deepen their experience. Kriya Yoga and Tattwa Shuddhi is not for people who are new to yoga.
