Satyanandasharam Hellas was inaugurated and named "True Bliss ashram" ("Satya – Ananda") - by Swami Satyananda in 1985
The aim of the association is to spread Satyananda Yoga within Greece, as well as the support of the philanthropic work of Satyananda Math. Being part of an international Satyananda Yoga family, it welcomes people from all over the world.
As one of the first of its kind in Europe, the ashram provides one with the opportunity to come for a short or longer stay and experience the benefits of a traditional yogic lifestyle first-hand, and offers a wide variety of seminars on yoga related topics. It is the only training centre which provides training for yoga instructors in the system of Satyananda Yoga in Greece.
Satyanandashram is based near Athens and located at the foothills of Mt. Ymittos, just outside Paiania. It comprises a residential ashram and three Satyananda Yoga Meditation Centres, in Athens, Paiania and Thessaloniki. The land on which the residential ashram lies has a long history of spiritual activity. It is said to have once been a sanctuary where the esoteric Dionysian mysteries were taught and that the town of Paiania was the birthplace of the philosopher Socrates and the renowned orator Demosthenes. Towering over these ancient sanctuaries, on the summit of Mt. Ymittos, was a statue of Zeus –the father of Dionysus and the mightiest of all the Greek gods
“Our country and your country had very good relations in the past and we exchanged our cultures. Our people came to you and your people came to us. Our ancestors brought yoga to Greece and we took much from Greece’s great culture back to India, and now the time has come again for us to unite and commune together”. Swami Satyananda Saraswati, 1978, Greece.
